NEWPORT BEACH MARRIOTT RE-EMERGES AS VEA NEWPORT BEACH, A MARRIOTT RESORT & SPA, IN SPRING 2022
“As Newport Beach residents ourselves, we are proud to present something created by the community, for the community,” said Kory Kramer of Eagle Four Partners. “Our goal was to create an authentic resort experience at the Newport Beach community, while being a California coastal destination like no other.”
Translating to “see,” VEA’s name celebrates the defining ocean and city views of its Newport Beach location, providing guests with a wealth of experiences to “see” and discover. Sitting above and offering sweeping views of the scenic tapestry of Newport Beach, the property is designed as a “social sanctuary,” a place to both get away from it all or be part of the social action when we wish. It is a destination which, although not far from the main metropolitan centers of Southern California, still feels miles away from the bustle of the city.
“Every design and programming decision was made with the customer experience in mind. Experience-driven spaces are what we’re known for, so we wanted VEA to be the ultimate example of that,” shares pete zack of Lyon Alive.
VEA will be a destination for socializing (with regular live music, a lively pool scene, designer fashion experiences in nearby luxury shopping destination Fashion Island, and vibrant dining experiences), and also for hiding ( whether in a solo retreat in a wellness suite or time spent at SpaVea). A captivating destination in an iconic city, VEA guests will revel in a social sanctuary with views and experiences that embody the quintessential elements of Newport Beach.
“Our goal was to make VEA a destination not just for world travelers looking for a coastal retreat, but for anyone looking for a unique experience. Rather than Orange County residents who travel to Los Angeles for something exciting, people will drive to experience VEA,” said Frank Suryan of Lyon Alive.
VEA is designed to focus on the most important aspect of the hotel: its ocean view. Renowned architecture and design firms HBA, Gensler, Burton Studio and Houston Tyner Architects bring this vision to life, with warm woods, understated neutrals, delicate marble and sculptural glass for a designer look without excessive complexity.
“Eagle Four Partners and Lyon Living’s inspiration for VEA came from diverse international flavors and travels around the world, establishing contemporary and cosmopolitan influences from the world’s greatest waterfront destinations,” said Kevin Martin of Eagle Four Partners.
“It merges perfectly with the unique spirit of California own ‘riviera’ to set the scene for a lively gathering place with both sophisticated energy and precious pockets of tranquillity. We are delighted to begin our transformation,” adds the Managing Director. Debbie Snavely from Marriott.
HALL & PUBLIC SPACES
VEA’s lobby will be a place that brings the outdoors in, with folding glass NanaWalls at the front and back of the lobby, opening up an entire wall of the space to create a true indoor-outdoor experience. Upon arrival at the entrance oculus, guests will be greeted by an awe-inspiring pier-inspired architectural feature and a massive circular waterfall that leads to the luxury lobby (a space enveloped by stunning wave-inspired millwork and sweeping views on the ocean beyond). In addition to an exclusive restaurant and lounge that opens onto the veranda (with views of the golf course and ocean), the lobby will feature selected and commissioned artwork, as well as a cafe -bar and a European-inspired patisserie, which will turn into a wine bar in the evening with charcuterie and other small plates to share.
ROOMS & SUITES
All rooms will be completely redesigned for the ultimate coastal luxury experience, with soft beach-inspired color palettes of tan, gray and blue and minimal artwork to celebrate the resort’s main feature, the views . Other amenities and highlights will include fireplaces in select premium rooms, Frette bathrobes and bath towels, crisp linens, luxury Molton Brown toiletries, Nespresso machines, evening turndown service, and more.
The four-bedroom group suites will feature an expansive layout with a full kitchen featuring Bosch, Fisher & Paykel, U-Line, and Perlick appliances, and a luxuriously appointed living room, all with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. These were created for group travel, ideal for getaways with friends, weddings, family vacations, corporate gatherings, and more.
The Wellness/Mindful-Focused Suites have been designed to provide a relaxed VEA experience. Their decor will feature soft, muted colors and natural elements like wood, marble, and stone, as well as spacious bathrooms with spa products and deep soaking tubs with bath salts. VEA will not only be a destination for socializing, but also for relaxation, making these suites a suitable choice for travelers looking to unwind, experience additional wellness offerings beyond a typical room, and seek rest and respite.
FOOD AND DRINKS
With the launch of VEA, there will also be three new dining destinations within the hotel:
- A spacious restaurant and lounge at the heart of the hotel connected to a veranda by folding glass doors that blend seamlessly inside and out; will include fire pits, comfortable seating, live music, abundant greenery, ocean and golf course views, breakfast/lunch/dinner service, and late-night offerings; the cuisine will be Mediterranean in flavor and California in the lifestyle, with bites served throughout the day and a dedicated focus on beverages, including tabletop martinis
- A European-inspired coffee bar and patisserie in the lobby lounge that will offer artisan coffee with pastries and espresso-based drinks; will turn into a wine bar in the evening with charcuterie and other small plates to share
- At the rear of the property is the Pool Deck Bar, which overlooks the luxurious Newport Beach Country Club (this destination also represents the end of the pier-like design and architectural element that runs through the resort ); will offer a menu of California– inspired favorites including fresh local seafood, craft beers and cocktails (including a VEA favourite: an iced paloma with an Aperol finish)
SPA & FITNESS CENTER
The 14,000 square foot spa will feature 14 treatment rooms, a dedicated saltwater pool, and a fitness center with a yoga studio, offering a variety of classes and equipment. Additionally, there will be new cabanas, a private event lawn with a fireplace, and lounge seating at the spa pool.
MEETINGS AND EVENTS
For all occasions large and small, a total of over 60,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor event space is being developed, creating the perfect setting for a wide range of corporate gatherings or social engagements at VEA. This includes:
- An event lawn facing the ocean with the ideal Southern California background
- A new outdoor event lawn adjacent to the ballrooms faces the cosmopolitan beauty of Newport Center
- A new flexible indoor/outdoor event space behind the property overlooking the coast, perfect for large social engagements and weddings
- Additional spaces providing indoor and outdoor environments for business and leisure
