Maritime tycoon, Taiwo Afolabi prepares another celebration
Since Earlier this year, Nigeria hosted some lavish celebrity weddings, but it’s already time for the next one. This time it’s billionaire businessman Dr. Taiwo Olayinka Afolabi who is ready for what promises to be the next level of big weddings. In October, Mariam Abiola Afolabi, the first daughter of the Nigerian maritime magnate, will marry her idol. The Afolabi family has kept most of the details under wraps but rumors are rife and the leaked details greatly excite many members of the Lagos social establishment.
Since her appointment in 2018 as Executive Director of the SIFAX Group, Mariam has retreated into her cocoon, and has stayed away from the radar. But her decision to leave celibacy and tie the nuptial knot with her longtime boyfriend has provided her friends with oxygen as they are optimistic and ready to dance with the bride-to-be who ran The Style Café, a resort of lifestyle, all thanks to Mariam’s billionaire dad who is well known for not doing things in half measures. The business tycoon will welcome the big and powerful at his daughter’s traditional wedding in mid-October in Lagos. The exquisite wedding – being held at the prestigious Marriott Hotel in Ikeja GRA, Lagos – is not for everyone as the guest list has been whittled down to just 150 quality guests.
The celebration, which will take place before the end of the year, will be a wedding abroad. The original plan was to hold the white wedding in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. But with the current travel restriction imposed on Nigerians by the Gulf nation, the Afolabis have opted for an undisclosed European country with an invitation – which will be delivered from next week – restricted to highly selected guests.
